What You'll Need
Sandpaper (fine grit — not too rough for little feet)
Bubble wrap
Faux fur fabric
Corrugated cardboard
Aluminum foil
A sponge
A large piece of cardboard for the base
Tape or glue
How to Play
Cut squares of each material — about 8x8 inches each.
Tape or glue each square onto a long cardboard strip, creating a textured path.
Lay the path on the floor in a hallway or open space.
Take off your toddler's shoes and socks — bare feet are essential.
Hold your toddler's hand and walk together, stepping on each texture.
Stop on each square and describe the feeling: "This one's bumpy! This one's squishy! Pop pop pop!"
Walk it again and let your toddler take the lead. Watch which ones they stomp on or skip.
Tips
Use fine-grit sandpaper only — coarse sandpaper is too rough for tender feet.
Bubble wrap is always the crowd favorite. Expect lots of happy stomping.
Secure everything flat with strong tape so nothing slides or bunches when stepped on.
Try this path with hands too — crawling across the texture board gives a completely different sensory experience.
You can add wet textures (damp sponge, a tray of finger paint) at the end for a grand finale.
