Work together as a team to follow clue cards around the house to find hidden treasure — building communication and cooperation skills.
What You'll Need
- 1Index cards or paper for clue cards
- 2Markers or pens
- 3Small treasure prizes (stickers, treats, small toys)
What You'll Need
Index cards or paper for writing clues (6-8 cards)
Markers or pens
A small treasure at the end — stickers, a favorite snack, a small toy
How to Play
Write clue cards that lead from one spot to the next. Example: "I'm cold inside and keep your food. Look where the butter and milk are stored!" (refrigerator)
Hide each clue at the location the previous clue points to.
Place the treasure at the final destination.
Gather the team: "You're treasure hunters! But you can ONLY find it by working together."
Read the first clue aloud. Discuss as a team where it leads.
Move together to each clue. No running ahead — the team stays together.
When the treasure is found, split it equally and celebrate the teamwork.
Why It Works
A team treasure hunt requires every social skill at once — communication (discussing the clue), cooperation (moving together), patience (waiting for others to figure it out), and shared celebration (the treasure is for everyone). The clue-solving creates natural conversation and debate, and the rule about staying together forces the group to work at the pace of the slowest member. That's real-world teamwork training.
Tips
Match clue difficulty to the youngest team member. Everyone should be able to contribute.
For multiple kids, assign roles: one person reads the clue, one person leads the way, one person searches.
Let kids write clues for YOU next time. Creating clues requires thinking about how other people think.
Increase difficulty by making clues into riddles, using a simple cipher, or adding timed challenges at each stop.
Age Adaptation Tips
School-age kids can take more ownership. Let them lead the activity, experiment with variations, and explain what they learned.
