How to Play
Create 30 cards in three categories: WHO (10), DOES WHAT (10), WHERE (10).
Write fun nouns: the dog, a robot, Grandma, a dinosaur, a penguin.
Write silly actions: eats pizza, flies to the moon, dances in pajamas.
Write locations: at the zoo, on a cloud, in a bathtub.
Make three shuffled piles.
Draw one from each: "A penguin... eats pizza... under the bed!"
Help your child draw and read the next round.
Draw pictures of the funniest sentences.
Tips
This game secretly teaches sentence structure. Every sentence has a subject (who), a predicate (does what), and often a location (where). By drawing from these categories, your child internalizes how English sentences work.
The silliness is the point. Absurd combinations are funnier AND more memorable than normal sentences. Your child will want to play this over and over.
Let your child add their own cards to each pile. This is stealth writing practice — they're choosing words, sounding them out, and writing them down because they're motivated by the game.
For emerging readers (4-5), use simple words and read the cards together. For stronger readers (5-6), let them read independently.
Save your favorite sentences and create a "Silly Sentences" book illustrated by your child.
