Name the Body Parts Song
Sing a simple song while touching your baby's body parts — nose, toes, tummy, ears — to build body awareness and early word recognition.
What You'll Need
No materials needed — just your voice and your baby
How to Play
Lay baby on a soft surface or hold them on your lap facing you.
Start with a simple chant: "Where's baby's nose? Here's baby's nose!" Gently tap their nose.
Move through body parts: "Where's baby's tummy? Here's baby's tummy!" Give a gentle pat or tickle.
Continue through ears, toes, hands, chin, cheeks, knees, and feet.
Make it sing-song — use the same melody each time so baby anticipates the pattern.
After a few rounds, pause before touching. Say "Where's baby's nose?" and wait. Older babies will start looking at or touching their own nose.
Add silly animal sounds: "Where's baby's tummy? ROAR! The lion found your tummy!"
Play this throughout the day — diaper changes, after bath, while getting dressed.
Tips
This isn't just cute — it's building receptive vocabulary. By 9-10 months, many babies can point to body parts they've heard named repeatedly. You're literally mapping words to their world.
Keep the melody consistent. Babies learn patterns, and a predictable tune helps them focus on the changing word (nose, tummy, toes) rather than trying to process everything at once.
Exaggerate your facial expressions and voice. "WHERE'S baby's NOSE?" with wide eyes is way more engaging than a flat monotone.
Once baby starts pointing to their own body parts, add new ones: elbow, shoulder, eyebrow. They'll love showing off what they know.
