Musical Simon Says Action Game
Play Simon Says with musical actions — Simon says clap four times, Simon says hum a high note, Simon says tap your feet. Listen carefully or get caught!
What You'll Need
Nothing at all — just 2 or more players and some musical energy
How to Play
Choose one person to be Simon. Everyone else stands facing Simon.
Simon gives musical commands: "Simon says clap your hands four times!" or "Simon says hum a high note!"
Players follow ONLY when they hear "Simon says" before the command. No "Simon says" = don't do it.
Use varied musical actions: hum, snap fingers, stomp feet, whistle, tap your head rhythmically, pat your knees, sing "la la la."
Speed up the commands to challenge everyone's listening and response time.
Mix in tricky commands without "Simon says": "Snap your fingers!" — anyone who does it is out for that round.
The last player standing becomes the new Simon. Play several rounds.
Tips
Musical commands are more interesting than standard Simon Says because they involve different sounds. "Simon says whistle" is harder than "Simon says touch your nose."
Add rhythmic complexity: "Simon says clap this pattern" and demonstrate a specific rhythm they have to copy.
Include musical vocabulary: "Simon says play air guitar!" "Simon says conduct an orchestra!" "Simon says play air drums!"
For younger players (5-6), slow down and give more obvious tricks. For older players (7-8), speed up and be sneaky.
This game builds auditory processing speed — the ability to quickly hear, understand, and act on verbal instructions. It's a key academic skill wrapped in a game.
Age Adaptation Tips
School-age kids can take more ownership. Let them lead the activity, experiment with variations, and explain what they learned.
