What You'll Need
- 14-6 cushions or small chairs
- 2Phone or speaker for music
What You'll Need
4-6 cushions or small chairs arranged in a circle (one per player to start)
Phone or speaker for playing music
How to Play
Arrange cushions or small chairs in a circle — one for each player. Floor cushions work great for this age.
Start the music and have everyone walk or dance around the circle. Keep it moving!
When the music stops, everyone finds a cushion and sits down. Cheer for everyone who finds their spot!
Remove one cushion but explain the twist: "This time, someone gets to share a seat with a friend!"
Start the music again and repeat. When it stops, two players squeeze onto one cushion together, giggling.
Keep removing cushions so more and more players have to share, pile up, and work together.
End when everyone is piled onto one cushion in a laughing, squirming heap. That's the win.
Tips
The cooperative twist is key for this age group. Traditional musical chairs where kids get "out" leads to tears. This version keeps everyone in and builds connection.
Soft floor cushions are safer than chairs for little ones who might topple during the excitement.
The sharing element is the real magic — kids are physically cooperating, making room, and laughing together.
Vary the music: slow songs for slow walking, fast songs for running. The tempo changes add a musical learning layer.
This works with as few as 2 players (you and your child) or as many as 8 at a playdate. It scales beautifully.
