Music Trivia Quiz Night Game
Test your musical knowledge with trivia questions about instruments, genres, famous musicians, and music history — play in teams or individually for points.
What You'll Need
- 1Trivia questions (prepared in advance)
- 2Paper and pencil for scoring
- 3Phone or speaker for audio rounds
What You'll Need
20-30 trivia questions prepared in advance across music categories
Paper and pencil for keeping score
Phone or speaker for audio rounds
How to Play
Prepare trivia questions across several categories: "Name the Instrument" (describe or play a sound), "Music History" (who, what, when), "Genre ID" (what style is this?), and "Lyrics" (finish the line).
Divide players into teams of 2-3, or play individually for smaller groups.
Read each question clearly and give 15 seconds to confer and answer. Buzzers (or just raising hands) add energy.
Award 1 point for each correct answer. Keep a visible scoreboard.
Audio rounds are the highlight: play 5-second clips and ask "What instrument is that?" or "What genre?" or "Name this song."
Include a bonus round where you hum or tap a song's rhythm. First team to identify it correctly gets double points.
Tally final scores and crown the Music Trivia Champion with a dramatic announcement.
Tips
Sample questions: "How many strings does a guitar have?" (6), "What instrument does a conductor use?" (baton), "What genre is Elvis Presley famous for?" (rock and roll), "What does 'forte' mean in music?" (loud).
Adjust difficulty for the group. Mix easy questions ("What nursery rhyme goes Twinkle Twinkle...") with harder ones ("What instrument family does the saxophone belong to?").
The audio round is always the favorite. Use sound clips of unusual instruments — sitar, bagpipes, theremin — for extra challenge and surprise.
This naturally motivates kids to learn more about music so they can win next time. Intrinsic motivation through competition.
Run a rematch in a month with new questions. Kids will actively seek out music knowledge between games.
