Karaoke Night at Home Party
Set up a karaoke station with a makeshift microphone and sing along to lyric videos — everyone takes a turn being the star on stage.
What You'll Need
- 1Phone, tablet, or TV for lyrics display
- 2Speaker for music
- 3Makeshift microphone or real microphone
- 4Optional: disco light or flashlight
What You'll Need
A phone, tablet, or TV for displaying song lyrics
A speaker for playing the music
A makeshift microphone (toilet paper tube, wooden spoon) or a real one
Optional: a disco light, colored light bulb, or flashlight for stage atmosphere
How to Play
Set up a "stage" area in the living room. Clear a space, maybe add a rug as the stage, and point a lamp or flashlight at it.
Search for karaoke or lyric videos on YouTube for songs your child knows and loves.
Craft a microphone from a toilet paper tube with a ball of foil on top, or use a real microphone if you have one.
Let the first performer choose their song and take center stage. Build the moment.
Display the lyrics on screen so they can follow along. Point to the words if needed.
The audience claps, cheers, waves phone flashlights, and sings along from their seats.
Everyone takes turns for at least two songs each. End the night with a group number everyone sings together.
Tips
Dim the lights. Seriously — karaoke in bright lights feels awkward. Karaoke with mood lighting feels like a concert.
For kids who are shy about singing solo, start with a duet. Sing together until they're comfortable, then step back.
Search "karaoke kids songs" on YouTube for age-appropriate tracks with on-screen lyrics.
Let kids pick their own songs, even if they've chosen the same song three times. Their song, their stage.
Film performances only if the child wants to be filmed. Some kids are more free without a camera on them.
This can become a family tradition — Karaoke Friday. The anticipation alone makes the week more fun.
Age Adaptation Tips
School-age kids can take more ownership. Let them lead the activity, experiment with variations, and explain what they learned.
