What You'll Need
- 1Phone or speaker for music
- 2Open floor space
What You'll Need
A phone or speaker for playing music
Open floor space for safe, wild dancing
How to Play
Clear a big space and gather all players in the center. The more players, the more fun.
Explain the rules: dance when the music plays, freeze into a creative statue pose when it stops. No wobbling!
Start an upbeat song and everyone dances as wild and silly as possible. Model big, goofy movements.
Pause the music at an unexpected moment. Everyone freezes instantly in whatever position they're in.
Walk around and inspect each statue with dramatic flair: "What a beautiful flamingo pose!" "Is that a robot?"
Anyone who wobbles, giggles, or moves while frozen gets a playful "I saw that!" Keep it light — no one is "out."
Start the music again and repeat 6-8 times. Suggest different styles: "This time, dance like a ballerina!" or "Dance like spaghetti!"
Tips
Vary the pause length — sometimes stop for 2 seconds, sometimes for 10. The unpredictability is what makes it exciting.
Suggest themes for frozen poses: freeze like your favorite animal, freeze in a superhero pose, freeze like you're sleeping.
The body control required to stop mid-movement and hold still is genuinely challenging. You're building impulse control and balance simultaneously.
This game works brilliantly at birthday parties, playdates, or family dance nights. It's universally loved.
Try playing music from different genres: rock, classical, salsa, jazz. Each naturally inspires different dance movements.
